Configuring I/O Expansion Cards and Modules

SCADAPack ER-P600 and SCADAPack ER-P620 outstations do not have on-board I/O. Instead, separate cards or modules that are connected to the outstation are used to provide the required I/O (input points and/or output points).

SCADAPack 330E, 334E, 350E and 357E outstations do have basic on-board I/O. However, unlike on-board I/O on other SCADAPack E outstations, that I/O is not automatically assigned any DNP3 Point Numbers. To represent such I/O cards in Geo SCADA Expert, you need to configure a DNP3 SCADAPack 5000 Series IO item in the database for each on-board I/O card on a SCADAPack 330E, 334E, 350E or 357E outstation.

If any type of SCADAPack E outstation requires separate I/O cards or modules, or the number of I/O (points) on a SCADAPack E outstation have been expanded by adding additional module(s) or card(s) to that outstation, you need to configure DNP3 SCADAPack IO items in the Geo SCADA Expert database, to represent those modules or cards. (You need only configure a SCADAPack ES Remote IO item in the database if the default automatic allocation of I/O is not suitable—for instance, if you want to specify different Point Numbers to those that would otherwise be assigned.)

You need to add and configure one DNP3 SCADAPack IO item of the appropriate type, for each separate I/O module or card that is connected to a SCADAPack E outstation. You also need to add one DNP3 SCADAPack point in the database for each input or output on that module or card. (Use the fields on each Point Form’s Mapping tab to reference the I/O unit with which each point is associated (see Specify any Point Mapping).)

The type of DNP3 SCADAPack IO item that you need to add to Geo SCADA Expert varies, depending on the type of SCADAPack E outstation and the type of I/O unit that is connected to that outstation:

SCADAPack ES Remote IO

(A SCADAPack ES Remote IO module is a SCADAPack E outstation that is used as an I/O expansion module. When used in this way, the outstation performs as a ‘dumb’ outstation, in that it provides facilities for monitoring and controlling I/O, but does not provide other outstation functionality such as ISaGRAF or Trend Sampler processing (such functionality cannot be configured on an E outstation that is used as an I/O expansion module).)

You configure each DNP3 SCADAPack IO database item using the relevant DNP3 SCADAPack IO Form. Each Form has several tabs.

Use the Identification tab to optionally define a Help View and to indicate whether the item is to be excluded from any Exclusive Control activity (see Defining Identification Details in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).

Use the Location tab to specify the item's geographical coordinates. (You need only configure the properties on this tab if your system uses Geo SCADA Expert's Geographical Location features.)

Use the User Methods tab to define any custom pick actions (‘methods’) for the item (see Using the User Methods Tab to Define Custom Actions in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).

Use the 5000 Series tab on the SCADAPack 5000 Series IO Form to Configure the 5000 Series I/O Properties.

Use the ER I/O tab on the SCADAPack ER IO Form to Configure the ER I/O Properties.

Use the SCADAPack ES Remote I/O tab on the SCADAPack ES Remote IO Form to Configure the SCADAPack ES Remote I/O Properties.
