Upgrade Your Geo SCADA Expert Clients (Original WebX Excluded)

Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards. We strongly recommend that you install the Virtual ViewX server on a different machine to the Geo SCADA Expert server. This is to avoid potential performance issues due to the number of resources that each application uses.

If you do install Geo SCADA Expert and Virtual ViewX on the same machine, both applications must have the same version and build number. This is because the applications share some resources.

In this section, we explain how to upgrade a Geo SCADA Expert client by installing updates for Geo SCADA Expert and any extensions and third-party applications. The details provided are suitable for all types of Geo SCADA Expert client, such as ViewX clients and Data Access clients, with the exception of Original WebX clients. For information on upgrading an Original WebX client, please see Upgrade Your Original WebX Clients.

When upgrading your Geo SCADA Expert client(s), please ignore any steps that are inappropriate for your system. For example, if your system does not have any extensions to upgrade, ignore step 5.

You should only upgrade your Geo SCADA Expert clients after the server(s) have been suitably upgraded. For more information, please refer to: Upgrade a Geo SCADA Expert Server in a Lone Server Architecture or Upgrade Geo SCADA Expert Servers in a Multi-Server Architecture.

To upgrade your Geo SCADA Expert client:

  1. First, undertake the appropriate preparation (see Preparing to Upgrade Geo SCADA Expert).

    With correct preparation, you will:

    • Find out about any version-specific details relating to your current version and the new version of Geo SCADA Expert.
    • Obtain the required upgrade files so that the upgrade can be completed as efficiently as possible.
  2. On the Geo SCADA Expert client, close all Geo SCADA Expert applications (ViewX, Client Configuration Tool, and so on.)
  3. Close any other applications that are accessing Geo SCADA Expert.
  4. Install the Geo SCADA Expert upgrade. To do this, run the Setup.exe file which is part of the Geo SCADA Expert update. When you run Setup.exe, the installer will run and install the correct files for the client’s operating system (64-bit or 32-bit).

    Some publishers may re-package Geo SCADA Expert to be part of another package. With these packages, you can use the installer for the package to install updates for Geo SCADA Expert and the other product together.

  5. Install updates for all extensions. (Skip to step 6 if the client does not use extensions).

    To install an extension, run the installer application supplied with the extension upgrade.

    If you do not update the extensions, Geo SCADA Expert may not run correctly.

  6. Install updates for any third-party applications that are associated with a specific version of Geo SCADA Expert. (Skip to step 7 if you do not use third-party applications with Geo SCADA Expert).

    For information on any third-party applications that you use with Geo SCADA Expert, please contact the publisher of the application.

  7. Restart your Geo SCADA Expert applications.
  8. Restart any third-party applications that use Geo SCADA Expert.
  9. Repeat for each Geo SCADA Expert client on your Geo SCADA Expert system.
