TCP/IP Type for WITS Network Communications

You can use the Network tab on the WITS Outstation Form to specify the TCP/IP Type for each network connection. The protocol can be:

• TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)
• UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

The Network tab has TCP/IP Type settings for outbound connections (Geo SCADA Expert to Field Device) and inbound connections (Field Device to Geo SCADA Expert).

• For outbound connections, the TCP/IP Type is the protocol that the Field Device uses when listening for connections from Geo SCADA Expert. There is one TCP/IP Type setting for single network connections, and two TCP/IP Type settings for dual networks (one for Network A, one for Network B).
• For inbound connections, the TCP/IP Type is the protocol that the Field Device uses to initiate connections to Geo SCADA Expert. There is a TCP/IP Type setting for each inbound connection (up to a maximum of ten).

Typically, you would set the TCP/IP Type during the initial configuration of the Outstation item to match the communications configuration of the Field Device. It is unlikely that you would then make any further changes to the TCP/IP Type in Geo SCADA Expert.

If you change the TCP/IP Type in Geo SCADA Expert and then download the configuration, communications will be lost. To restore communications, you need to:

1. Re-configure the TCP/IP Type of the other Outstations that use the same Channel(s).
2. Re-configure the Channel(s) to have a TCP/IP Type that matches that of the Outstations.
