Events Lists

Geo SCADA Expert logs each activity that occurs on your system, creating an audit trail for system operation and reporting. Events are the records of the activities that have occurred on your system. Geo SCADA Expert logs events, for example, for each user interaction with the system, and for automatic system occurrences such as alarms, point updates, scheduled archiving, and so on. Geo SCADA Expert logs the events in the Event Journal. You can view these occurrences by displaying an Events List. You can view a general list of events that have occurred on the system over a particular time period, or view a list of the events that are associated with an individual item or group. (The latter version of the Events List contains the same type of information as the former, but further filters the entries to include only those records that apply to the selected item or group.)

You can use either Events List to view the events and determine what has happened on your system. This is especially useful when attempting to diagnose reported faults or to determine what tasks other users have performed.

NOTICE

LOSS OF DATA

There is a limit to the number of Event Journal records per database item per hour that can be logged. If the number of records for an individual item reaches this limit an alarm is raised to indicate that the granule has reached the maximum value and no more events will be logged for the item for the remainder of this period. This will result in the loss of data that has been discarded. To help prevent loss of data, you need to set appropriate maximum values, see Define the Acceptable Number of Event Journal Records.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data

Refer to the following sections for details on how to use List’s common features and interpret the information that the Events Lists provide:

Various properties affect the way in which event information is presented on a Geo SCADA Expert system. Many of these properties can be configured by system administrators and high-level engineers. Such configuration is explained in the following sections within this guide:

We strongly recommend that the Guest user account is not used for operator access. As part of this restriction, access to Queries Lists might be prohibited for the Guest User on your system. This is indicated by a diagnostic message being displayed if a user attempts to display a List such as an Events List, Historic List, or Queries List without logging on. To access such a List on a ViewX client on such a system, you have to log on using a valid User Account that has the relevant permissions and access. For more information, see Specify Whether the Guest User can Execute SQL Queries.
