Multiple Alarm Limits
You use the Multiple Alarm Limits feature to apply different alarm limits in different circumstances. For example, you can switch a group of Configuration items or a group of protocol-specific points from using a 'Summer' set of alarm limits to a 'Winter' set of alarm limits when the seasons change (see Switch Between Multiple Alarm Limits).
Multiple Alarm Limits when Using RTU Alarm Limits
When a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is configured to inherit its alarm limits from the associated Configuration item, then there will be two sets of inherited limits. The group containing the Configuration item determines which of the two sets of inherited alarm limits are applied.
A Group's Status display shows which alarm limits apply to the Group and the SCADAPack x70 Configuration items that are in the Group. The Group's alarm limits status does not necessarily apply to any SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific points within that Group. This is because those points inherit their alarm limit settings from the SCADAPack x70 Configuration items with which they are associated (which might be in a different Group). A SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point's Status display shows which alarm limits are in use and inherited from the associated Configuration item. A Configuration item's Status display shows which alarm limits are associated with the Configuration item and its associated points (see Status Attributes that are Specific to SCADAPack x70 Configuration Items and Protocol-Specific Points).
You can switch a group containing Configuration items from one set of alarm limits to another defined set of alarm limits.
A SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point inherits its alarm limits from the associated Configuration item, rather than the Group that contains the protocol-specific point. This behavior differs slightly to that of points on other drivers and the SCADAPack x70 points that are using local limits (see the Multiple Alarm Limits when Using Local Alarm Limits section below and see Alarm Limit Settings when a Point is Moved.
For more information, see Define whether a Point uses the RTU Alarm Limits.
Multiple Alarm Limits when Using Local Alarm Limits
When a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is configured to use its own local alarm limits, then there will be two sets of local limits. The group containing the point determines which of the two sets of local alarm limits are applied.
You can switch a group containing SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific points from one set of alarm limits to another defined set of alarm limits.
