Reset Profile

Security permission required to access this pick action: Security

For each user account, Geo SCADA Expert keeps a ‘profile’ of settings which include the Favorites for that user, the last active Explorer Bar, and the size of the Explorer Bar and Alarm Banner. By using the Reset Profile action, you can clear a user’s profile so that the default settings are re-applied.

Typically, you would not need to use the Reset Profile action. However, in rare circumstances, logging on via a particular user account may cause a problem due to a corrupt User profile. For example, while extremely unusual, it is possible that logging on via a user account that has a corrupt profile could cause ViewX to ‘freeze’. In this situation, another user should log on and use the Reset User Profile action on the user account that causes the ‘freeze’ to occur. This will clear the data from the profile and allow the user to log on successfully.

You might be asked to refrain from changing User Profile settings while your Geo SCADA Expert system is in the process of being upgraded. For more information, see Upgrading Geo SCADA Expert.

To access the Reset Profile action for a user account:

  1. Log on via a user account that:
    • Is not the user account that is encountering log on difficulties.
    • Has sufficient permissions to access the Reset User Profile action (for the user account that cannot log on correctly).
  2. Browse to the User that cannot log on correctly. There are many ways you can access the User, for example, you can browse to the User in the Database Bar or you can display a Users List and access the User from the list. You may also have Mimics that provide access to the pick action menu for the User.
  3. Select the Reset Profile option from the User’s context-sensitive menu.
The User’s profile data is reset to the default settings. This will clear the profile data for the User so that the user account can be used to log on successfully again.
