Installation on ViewX Clients on Which You Want to Edit Reports

On the ViewX clients on which you want to edit reports on your system, you need to:

  1. Install the software for the third-party Crystal Reports application. ClearSCADA can interface with SAP Crystal Reports 2013 or SAP Crystal Reports 2016.
  2. Install the relevant Crystal Reports Service Pack (see http://resourcecenter.controlmicrosystems.com/pages/releaseview.action?pageId=917534).
  3. Install the ClearSCADA software, including:
  4. Add an ODBC Data Source Name (DSN) to allow Crystal Reports to access the ClearSCADA database. Crystal Reports uses the DSN to access the relevant database whenever you create or edit a report on a client.

The DSN on a client can be either a System DSN or a User DSN. (A System DSN is shared by all Windows Users on a machine; a User DSN is specific to an individual Windows User—the user that was logged on when the DSN was added.)

We advise that the same data source name is used throughout your system, even if Crystal Reports is only to access the Local Database. (The Local Database is the ClearSCADA database that contains the report.) By using the same data source name, you allow your reports to be fully portable - they can be edited from any client on which ClearSCADA and Crystal Reports are installed.

(If any of your reports are to access Multiple Databases, the same data source name has to be used throughout your system—see step 5.)

If your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows®, you need to add a 32-bit ODBC DSN, as SAP Crystal Reports is a 32-bit application. (Be aware that the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the ODBC Data Source Administrator Tool display both 32-bit and 64-bit User DSNs on computers running 64-bit operating systems.)

On machines running the 32-bit version of Windows®, you can access the ODBC Data Source Administrator Tool from the Control Panel on your PC.

On machines running the 64-bit version of Windows®, you need to run the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator Tool. To do this, run the Odbcad32.exe file that is located in the %windir%\SysWoW64 folder.

For more information on setting up an ODBC DSN, see Configure an ODBC Client - System Connection using a DSN in the ClearSCADA Guide to Client Administration.

  5. If any of your reports are to access more than one database, repeat step 4 as required, in order to add one ODBC DSN for each additional database.

In order for Crystal Reports to access multiple databases, each DSN that you add has to have the same name on both the client(s) on which the reports are to be created, and on the server(s) that will be used to generate those reports.

For Crystal Reports to access the data from other databases, the relevant reports have to be configured to access Remote Database(s) (see Specify the Data Source).

  6. Repeat the above steps on each ClearSCADA client that is to be used for editing reports.
