Creating a ClearSCADA Map

You can create single-layer maps or multi-layer composite maps in ClearSCADA, from online or offline mapping sources, which you can then use for a variety of purposes. For example, you can display:

• The geographic location of items in the ClearSCADA database
• Geographic information, such as weather data.

To create a map:

1. The first step is to specify the source of each map layer (for more about map layers, see About ClearSCADA Maps). You do this by creating and configuring a Map Source database item for each layer. ClearSCADA currently provides access to a number of different Map Sources (see Which Map Sources does ClearSCADA Support?). OpenStreetMap® and Bing Maps® provide base layer maps while ArcGIS® and WMS maps provide a wide range of both base layer and overlay mapping.

2. If you are creating a multi-layer map, with a base layer and overlays, the next step is to create and configure a Map Set database item. The Map Set item will contain a list of all the Map Sources (layers) in your composite map and represents the finished map. If you want, you can provide your users with a choice of base layers and overlays (for more about layers, see Using a ClearSCADA Map).

Once you have created your map, your users can then display it in ClearSCADA (see Displaying a ClearSCADA Map) and use the map (see Using a ClearSCADA Map).
