Configuring the Guest User Account

ClearSCADA has a guest user account that is used automatically whenever a user accesses the system without logging on. The Guest user account is used when ViewX clients first start up and when a user is not logged on.

You can configure the Guest user account so that you can control what information and features are available to users that access the system without logging on. This is useful as it allows you to restrict the features that are available to unauthorized users.

NOTICE

SECURITY THREAT

If the Guest User Account is configured with inappropriate permissions the security of the system may be compromised.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in a breach in the system security and loss of data.

We recommend that the Guest User Account should not be configured with Write access to the system.

To configure the Guest user account, you need to use two displays - the System Form and the Options window. The settings that you put in place on both displays should correspond so that there is no conflict between the settings. The settings on the System Form apply to every client whereas the settings on the Option window only apply to the client that is being configured.

To configure the Guest user account, you need to:

  1. Define the Global Settings for the Guest User Account
  2. Define the Client Specific Settings for the Guest User.

NOTE:If you are using the Original WebX client, the Web user account, which is based on the settings of the Guest User account, can be used within the client (Define the Global Settings for the Guest User Account In addition you can also Define the Home Page for the Web User Account.

To configure the Guest User account, your own user account requires the Configure permission for the system, (see Permissions for Database Items).

The Guest and Web User accounts are not available for WebX clients.
