The Take Complete Exclusive Control action allows you to take exclusive control of an item or a group of items. When you take exclusive control of an item, other users cannot access the reserved features for the item (until the exclusive control is released, either by you or by another user with the Manage Exclusive Control permission).
Take Complete Exclusive Control is available on an item’s context sensitive menu when all of the following conditions are true:
- The Exclusive Control feature is enabled in the server configuration. If the Groups Only option is disabled in the server configuration, the Take Complete Exclusive Control action is available for every item; if the Available on Group Menus Only option is enabled, Take Complete Exclusive Control is only available for Group items.
- The item does not have the Exclude from Exclusive Control option selected on its Form. For more information, refer to the configuration section for the type of database item for which you are trying to take exclusive control.
- You are logged on via a custom user account (i.e. an account other than the Super User or Guest account).
- The item is not already under exclusive control.
If the item for which you want to take complete exclusive control is a Group, the Take Complete Exclusive Control action is only available if all of the conditions above are true and all of the items in the Group are either under your exclusive control or not under exclusive control at all. If any of the items in the Group are under the exclusive control of another user, the Take Partial Exclusive Control action is made available instead of the Take Complete Exclusive Control action.
