Create a Device Configuration Item
Add a SCADAPack 57x Device Configuration item to the database. This item will contain the configuration that you can download to the SCADAPack 575 to configure the actual SCADAPack unit. This type of item is available from the Devices sub-branch within the SCADAPack x70 branch of the Create New menu.
When you create the Device Configuration item, you can leave most of the configuration fields at their default values. For this tutorial, the only fields that you need to change on the Device's configuration Form are as follows:
On the Settings tab:
- Type—(This field is located within the Device Selection section.) Ensure that this is set to SCADAPack 575.
- Device Configuration Options—Clear the check boxes other than DNP3 Slave (which will be 'grayed out' and selected). With just this check box selected, the SCADAPack 575 is configured to operate as a stand-alone DNP3 slave device, communicating with its DNP3 master (Geo SCADA Expert).
On the DNP3 Slave tab:
- DNP3 Slave Address—(This field is located within the Connection to Master section.) Leave this field at its default of 0 in the Master 1 column. 0 is the address that SCADAPack x70 devices use by default, following a Cold Boot or factory reset. As such, Geo SCADA Expert uses address 0 when setting up the initial connection with a new SCADAPack x70 device.
(When setting up a new SCADAPack x70 device in a genuine system, before connecting to Geo SCADA Expert, you would typically use RemoteConnect configuration software to set the required DNP3 Slave Address and other communication parameters, such as the Baud Rate and IP Address, in that SCADAPack x70 device. You would then set the DNP3 Slave Address of the Device Configuration item in Geo SCADA Expert so that it matches the address used in the SCADAPack x70 device.)
- Unsolicited Allowed—(This field is located within the Connection to Master section.) In the Master 1 column, select this check box so that it displays a check mark.
- Event Notification Delay—(This field is located within the Unsolicited Message Generation (Triggered Events) section.) The default of 10S should be suitable for many system setups, but for the purposes of this tutorial, set this property to 2S.
- Default Enabled Event Classes—(This field is located within the Unsolicited Configuration section.) Leave at its default of No Classes. Geo SCADA Expert will determine the classes of data for which it should transmit unsolicited messages, once it establishes communications with the SCADAPack 575.
Once you have configured the Device Configuration item, you can proceed to Create a Direct Outstation.
