Configuring DNP3 Virtual Terminals
You can use VT Service Port and Virtual Terminal configuration to allow data to be transported between, for example, a series of flow computers and a flow computer configuration tool, using the DNP3 protocol. By using VT Service Ports and Virtual Terminals, the Geo SCADA Expert system and its outstations act as a ‘transparent’ means of routing communications. Furthermore, data transfers that would otherwise have required a separate physical connection to a non-DNP3 port can proceed over an existing DNP3 port.
This section explains the Preparation and Configuration Order that you need to follow to successfully configure Geo SCADA Expert to transport data using the DNP3 protocol.
It also explains how to:
- Configure a DNP3 VT Service Port Master
- Configure a DNP3 Virtual Terminal
- Configure a VT Service Port Slave.
For information on the minimal amount of configuration that you can undertake to enable Geo SCADA Expert to transport data using the DNP3 protocol, see Minimum Configuration.
