Configuring a DNP3 Outstation Set
The Geo SCADA Expert DNP3 Driver supports these types of DNP3 outstation set:
- DNP3 Direct Outstation Set—Used when Geo SCADA Expert is the master DNP3 device and connects to the DNP3 outstations directly (for example by serial cable, IP network, or radio). If your system setup allows, you can configure outstations that are in a DNP3 Direct Outstation Set to use PSTN for backup communications in the event that the direct channel fails.
- DNP3 PSTN Outstation Set—Used when Geo SCADA Expert is the master DNP3 device and connects to the DNP3 outstations using dial-up modems.
- DNP3 Shared Outstation Set—Used when redundant direct connections exist from the Geo SCADA Expert server to the DNP3 outstation. Each outstation in the set can use either channel to communicate with the Geo SCADA Expert server. If your system setup allows, you can configure outstations that are in a DNP3 Shared Outstation Set to use PSTN for backup communications in the event that both direct channels fail.
- DNP3 Switched Outstation Set—Used when redundant direct connections exist from the Geo SCADA Expert server to the DNP3 outstation. All of the outstations in the set use the same channel at the same time. If your system setup allows, you can configure outstations that are in a DNP3 Switched Outstation Set to use PSTN for backup communications in the event that both direct channels fail.
- DNP3 Slave Direct Outstation Set—Used when Geo SCADA Expert is configured as a slave DNP3 device and other DNP3 devices connect to Geo SCADA Expert directly (for example by serial cable, IP network, or radio).
- DNP3 Slave PSTN Outstation Set—Used when Geo SCADA Expert is configured as a slave DNP3 device and other DNP3 devices connect to Geo SCADA Expert using dial-up modems.
- DNP3 Slave Switched Outstation Set—Used when Geo SCADA Expert is configured as a slave DNP3 device and other DNP3 devices connect to Geo SCADA Expert using redundant direct connections.
You specify the properties of each set using the fields on the appropriate DNP3 Outstation Set Form.
Each Form has several tabs.
This section describes the properties that are available on the DNP3 tab. These properties allow you to Specify the Address of a DNP3 Master Set. The tab only applies to sets that are used when Geo SCADA Expert is the master DNP3 device.
Properties on the other tabs are common to outstation sets on many advanced drivers—for information, see Configuring an Outstation Set in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers.
