Set up the Drivers on a New Geo SCADA Expert System

This section is for system administrators that are installing drivers on a new Geo SCADA Expert system. This section is specific to driver installation—for information on installing and setting up other aspects of Geo SCADA Expert, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Server Administration, the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Client Administration, and the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration.

To install and configure the drivers on a new Geo SCADA Expert system:

  1. Ensure that your system has a valid license for each driver that you want to run. (Use the License Details window to check whether a valid driver license existssee Server License Settings - Geo SCADA Expert.)
  2. Use the Geo SCADA Expert Installation Wizard to select the driver component(s) that you need to install (see Install a Driver in Geo SCADA Expert).
  3. Use the Geo SCADA Expert Server Configuration Tool to Specify the Common Driver Settings.
  4. Configure any driver-specific server settings. (Not all drivers have server settings that are driver-specific—the relevant driver guide will summarize any settings that do exist.)
  5. Add the various driver-specific items—channels, points, and so on—to your system and configure those items in the database (see the relevant driver guide and, if applicable, see Configure a Channel’s Connection Properties).

If relevant, consider using the Automation Interface to import existing system configuration from another source, such as a database spreadsheet.

Also consider using Group Templates and Group Instances to replicate like areas of database configuration (see Group Templates and Group Instances).

Remember that by default, Geo SCADA Expert does not store point data historically—if you want Geo SCADA Expert to store data historically for a particular point, you need to enable Historic on the configuration Form for that point (see Defining Historic Details for a Point).

  6. If required, specify the alarm conditions for which any point types are to have Multiple Point State Alarms. (For information on this feature, see Multiple Point State Alarms in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Point Configuration. For information on setting up multiple point state alarms, see Point State Alarms)
  7. Set up the required security for the newly added driver items (see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Security).

(Remember that security permissions are assigned on a per item/per group basis, whereas access to the various features and functions is assigned on a per user/per user group basis.)
