Configure String Points
Use an EtherNet/IP String Point to map an item of data (a tag) in the controller to a string point in Geo SCADA Expert database. You do this when the tag comprises string data to enable Geo SCADA Expert to represent that data in the database.
You configure the properties of each string point using fields on the EtherNet/IP String Point Form. The configuration Form contains many fields, organized into tabs. Most of these tabs contain properties that are common to points on many drivers (see Tabs on Point Forms in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers).
This section covers configuration of the string point-specific properties on the String Point tab of the Form.
Use the String Point tab to:
- Configure the Common Point Properties.
- Define the Format (see Format Settings in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Point Configuration).
When you define the format, it specifies the appearance of the point’s value in other ViewX displays, such as Lists.
With each string point that is to operate as an output point (in order to control plant), you also have to enable and configure the properties on the Control tab. You use the Control tab to:
- Define the Control Settings for a String Point
- Promoting Scanning of Outstations Associated with Controls
- Update an Output Point's Value Immediately Following a Successful Control Action
