Adjust the Configuration of any IEC 60870-5 Points that Cause a High Load
By using the statistics that are shown in Lists and Status displays, you can determine whether any IEC 60870-5 outstations are causing a high load on the Geo SCADA Expert system. A high load on the Geo SCADA Expert server can lead to slow client performance (see Diagnose Client Performance Problems in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Server Status Tool).
Once you have identified any IEC 60870-5 outstations that are causing a high load, you can investigate which points on the outstation are contributing to the load issue. To do this, use the Points List. Typically, a high load on the server is cause by a point updating too frequently.
Where a point on an IEC 60870-5 outstation is causing a high load:
- If many of the points on the outstation are causing a high load, and Station Interrogation is used to regularly scan that outstation for current data, you may need to specify a less frequent interrogation rate (see Configure the Station and Group Interrogation Intervals).
- If the point is on an outstation that supports Group Interrogation, check which interrogation group the point is using. If this is causing the server to update the current point value at too frequent a rate, you may need to:
- Specify a different interrogation group. (This is done at the outstation, rather than via Geo SCADA Expert.)
or:
- Specify a less frequent interrogation rate for the group (see Configure the Station and Group Interrogation Intervals).
- Specify a different interrogation group. (This is done at the outstation, rather than via Geo SCADA Expert.)
- If none of the above checks and configuration changes have cleared the high load caused by the point, you should investigate:
- The configuration at the outstation.
- The outstation hardware for any faults.
- The plant for any faults.
- The instrumentation for any faults.
