Introduction to the IEC 60870-5 Slave Driver
This driver is an advanced driver. It provides additional functionality to enable Geo SCADA Expert to interface with specific supported devices using a particular protocol. To interact successfully with such devices, you need to:
- Install and run the driver
- Ensure that the driver is licensed
- Configure the required database items and settings on the driver
- Ensure that the database items (and any database items on which they depend) have valid, saved, configuration and are 'In Service'.
Intended Audience
This guide is primarily intended for engineers who are responsible for configuring IEC 60870-5 Slave items and features in the Geo SCADA Expert database.
The guide also contains information for maintenance engineers.
Document Scope
This guide explains the configuration, features and database items that are specific to Geo SCADA Expert’s IEC 60870-5 Slave driver. The slave functionality that is built into the IEC 60870-5 Driver allows a Geo SCADA Expert system to act as an IEC 60870-5 Controlled Station (outstation) and report any data changes back to its Controlling Station (SCADA master station). The slave transmits any changes to its database, or sets values or states in its database, upon request from the SCADA master.
For information on how to configure Geo SCADA Expert as an IEC 60870-5 Controlling Station (SCADA master), see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the IEC 60870-5 Driver.
This guide contains technical information that is intended for users that are sufficiently familiar with Geo SCADA Expert configuration and operation. Before reading this driver guide, ensure that you are familiar with:
- Geo SCADA Expert configuration practices, procedures, and the configuration of properties that are common to many database items. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration, and the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Point Configuration.
- Driver structure, components, and configuration properties, pick actions, and status attributes that are common to many drivers. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Drivers.
- Advanced driver configuration order, outstation types, and configuration properties and logging options that are common to many advanced drivers. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers.
The slave can obtain its data directly from plant, from calculated values, or from any item in the Geo SCADA Expert database. Its SCADA master can be another Geo SCADA Expert server, or a third party server that is using either the IEC 60870-5-101, or IEC 60870-5-104 protocol.
The IEC 60870-5 Driver provides extra functionality within Geo SCADA Expert server for transmitting data or setting points upon request from an IEC 60870-5 master. When configured as an IEC 60870-5 slave, Geo SCADA Expert uses Filtered Value Maps for mapping point properties into memory, so that they can be accessed using the IEC 60870-5-101, or IEC 60750-5-104 protocol.
This guides summarizes the IEC 60870-5 Terminology of which you need to be aware, and provides detailed information on Configuring IEC 60870-5 Slave Devices in Geo SCADA Expert.
It also explains the IEC 60870-5 slave statistics and diagnostic features. System administrators and engineers may find these features useful when investigating unexpected behavior relating to the IEC 60870-5 driver (see IEC 60870-5 Slave Specific Status Display Attributes).
There are no driver-specific pick actions for slave items on the IEC 60870-5 driver.
