Configuring Mitsubishi Devices in Geo SCADA Expert
On a Geo SCADA Expert system, you configure the Geo SCADA Expert database so that entries in the database correspond to the plant, control devices, and measuring instruments on your system. This section summarizes the database items that you need to configure to represent the Mitsubishi devices on your system.
You can only configure database items to represent any Mitsubishi devices if the Mitsubishi Driver is installed and running on the Geo SCADA Expert servers on your system.
When you configure Mitsubishi items in the Geo SCADA Expert database, many of the settings for those items need to correspond to the settings of the relevant Mitsubishi devices on your system. Some settings are either fixed (incorporated into the design of the Mitsubishi Slave or PLC), or are configured by an engineer. You need to have access to, or an understanding of, the settings of the Mitsubishi devices on your system before you can configure the Mitsubishi database items successfully.
For instance, you need to know the type(s) of MELSEC A PLC that the Mitsubishi driver is to scan. You also need to know the area(s) of memory in which data is located in those PLCs (see Mitsubishi Data Address Ranges).
You also need to be aware of which optional features are required for each Mitsubishi item. These features include:
- Alarm views
- Alarm redirections
- Historic data storage
- User methods.
You can also use core Geo SCADA Expert features with Mitsubishi database items, including Lists, Actions, and Mimics. See the core documentation for details.
For each Mitsubishi device, you need to configure:
- Mitsubishi Channel(s) to represent the communication connections between each Mitsubishi Slave or PLC and the Geo SCADA Expert server (see Configuring a Mitsubishi Channel).
You need to configure a separate Mitsubishi channel for each separate communications channel that is available to the Mitsubishi driver on your system.
- At least one Mitsubishi Scanner for each Mitsubishi Slave or Mitsubishi PLC that the driver is to scan (see Configuring a Mitsubishi Scanner).
Configure a scanner for each memory address range that you want to scan on a Slave or PLC, or each group of points that you want to scan at a different frequency or time offset.
- A Mitsubishi Point for each separate item of data that is to be read from or written to in a block of memory (see Points Used on Mitsubishi Scanners).
(Mitsubishi PLCs use areas of memory known as Device memory, Buffer memory, and Register memory to store data (see Mitsubishi Data Address Ranges). Settings used by the Mitsubishi driver determine the location of the data within those areas of memory.)
You can associate multiple points with each Mitsubishi Scanner.
To minimize the time that it takes to configure the required Mitsubishi items, you may want to configure them in the order listed above, as Scanner configuration requires you to specify a channel, and Point configuration requires that you specify a scanner, etc.
