Configuring NTP Monitor Devices in Geo SCADA Expert

On a Geo SCADA Expert system, you configure the Geo SCADA Expert database so that entries in the database correspond to the plant, measuring instruments, and control devices on your system. This section summarizes the database items that you need to configure to represent the NTP Monitor devices on your system.

To represent any NTP Monitor devices, the NTP Monitor Driver has to be installed and running on the Geo SCADA Expert servers on your system. (As with most other Geo SCADA Expert drivers, the NTP Monitor Driver requires a valid license in order to run on Geo SCADA Expert.)

To configure NTP Monitor items successfully in the Geo SCADA Expert database, you need to be aware of the NTP devices that are running on your system. For instance, you need to know the location of each NTP server on your system, and the NTP ‘tag’ that each point is to monitor on those server(s).

You also need to be aware of which optional features are required for each NTP Monitor item. These features include:

You can also use core Geo SCADA Expert features with NTP Monitor database items, including Lists, Actions, and Mimics. See the core documentation for details.

For each NTP Monitor device, you need to configure:

  1. NTP Monitor Scanner(s) to specify which NTP server(s) are to be scanned and the rates at which NTP data is to be retrieved (see Configuring an NTP Monitor Scanner).

If required, you can assign more than one scanner to each NTP server.

  2. NTP Monitor Points to represent the items of NTP data that you want Geo SCADA Expert to monitor (see Points Used on NTP Monitor Scanners).

To minimize the time that it takes to configure the required NTP Monitor items, you may want to configure them in the order listed above, as point configuration requires you to specify a scanner.
