Configure I/O Modules
With the SCADAPack x70 driver, physical inputs and outputs can comprise:
- Inputs and outputs that are built into the SCADAPack x70 device
- I/O modules that are attached to the SCADAPack x70 device to extend its I/O capability.
- Remote inputs and outputs, accessed via Slave Devices.
You use a SCADAPack x70 I/O Module in the database to define how the physical inputs and/or outputs are configured on each SCADAPack x70 device or I/O module. This configuration includes a reference to the SCADAPack x70 Configuration items that represent each input or output on the device or I/O module.
For each SCADAPack x70 device or I/O module for which Geo SCADA Expert is to process point data, you require one SCADAPack x70 I/O Module of the appropriate type in the database.
You can convert an I/O module from one Type to another by using the Convert To option (see Converting a Database Item).
The types of I/O Module that are supported vary, depending on the model of SCADAPack x70 device and the type and quantity of supported I/O. Attaching an incompatible I/O module, or more than the maximum number of I/O modules to a device triggers a diagnostic message. For more information on the maximum number of I/O modules that can be safely attached to each SCADAPack x70 device, see the Installation section of the respective Hardware Manuals in the documentation provided with the SCADAPack RemoteConnect software.
Type of SCADAPack x70 Device or I/O Module | I/O Capacity | Type of I/O Module in the Database | Comments |
---|---|---|---|
Built-in I/O on a SCADAPack 470 |
|
470 Composite I/O |
This database item represents the inputs and outputs on the SCADAPack device itself, rather than a plug-in I/O module. For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
Built-in I/O on a SCADAPack 474 |
|
474 Composite I/O |
This database item represents the inputs and outputs on the SCADAPack device itself, rather than a plug-in I/O module. The I/O capacity of SCADAPack 474 is equivalent to a SCADAPack 470 with a 6607 input output module. For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
Built-in I/O on a SCADAPack 570 |
|
570 Digital I/O |
This database item represents the inputs and outputs on the SCADAPack device itself, rather than a plug-in I/O module. For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
Built-in I/O on a SCADAPack 574 |
|
574 Composite I/O |
This database item represents the inputs and outputs on the SCADAPack device itself, rather than a plug-in I/O module. The I/O capacity is equivalent to a SCADAPack 570 with a 5607 input output module. For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
Built-in I/O on a SCADAPack 575 |
|
575 Composite I/O |
This database item represents the inputs and outputs on the SCADAPack device itself, rather than a plug-in I/O module. The I/O capacity is equivalent to a SCADAPack 570 with a 6601 input output module. For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |

6601 Composite I/O | For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
6602 HART module |
OR:
|
6602 HART I/O OR: 6602 HART Input Only |
Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 separate I/O Modules in the database; one for the 6602 variant with both inputs and outputs, the other for the input only variant. Both variants of 6602 HART module can only be used to extend the I/O capability of 57x devices. |
6607 Composite I/O module |
|
6607 Composite I/O |
For those digital inputs that have a counter, Geo SCADA Expert provides 2 entries on the I/O Module's configuration Form; one for the digital input, and another for the counter (see Define the Required I/O Channel Configuration). |
You configure each SCADAPack x70 I/O Module in the database using the relevant SCADAPack x70 I/O Module Form. Each Form has several tabs, some of which contain properties that are common to many database items, and others that contain properties that are specific to I/O Modules.
The topics in this section document the properties on the SCADAPack x70 tab. The tab contains several common fields. Some I/O Modules support additional fields, which are documented individually. The tab also contains a 'Channel Configuration' section for which the number and types of I/O channel vary per I/O Module, in line with the I/O Capacity shown in the table above. For more information, see the topics that are listed in the gray footer section at the bottom of this topic. Select the relevant entry to display the topic that you require.
The properties on the remaining tabs are common to many database items. For information about those tabs, see Tabs on the Forms of Configuration Items.
