SCADAPack x70

Configure Pulse Actions for DNP3 Communications

The topics in this section document the properties on the Forms of SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Actions. You only require such database items if Geo SCADA Expert is to use the DNP3 protocol to communicate with a SCADAPack x70 device and is to send pulsed, rather than maintained, controls to change the value or state of output(s) on that device. You use a pulse to control plant for a defined period of time, whereas you use a maintained control to change the value or state of plant until you use another control to further change that value or state. (To generate a maintained control, you use a Binary Output Point, rather than a Pulse Action.)

For communications using the DNP3 protocol, the SCADAPack x70 driver supports these types of Pulse Action:

In both cases, Geo SCADA Expert uses the Pulse Action database items to store protocol-specific information about how it processes the pulse data that it retrieves from, or sends to, the SCADAPack x70 device. You configure the properties of each Pulse Action using the fields on the respective SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Action configuration Form. Each Form has several tabs, some of which contain properties that are common to many database items, and others that contain properties that are specific to Pulse Actions.

The topics in this section cover configuration of properties on the following tabs:

For SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Action (NULL) and SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Action (Trip-Close) items:

With a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Action (NULL) item:

With a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Pulse Action (Trip-Close) item:

The properties on the remaining tabs are common to points and pulse actions on many drivers. For information about those tabs, see Tabs on Point Forms in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers.
