Guest User Account and Everyone User Group

The Guest user account is a built-in user account. It is used whenever a user accesses Geo SCADA Expert via ViewX, Original WebX, OPC, ODBC or Automation without logging on. By default, the Guest user has no permissions set and immediately after a new installation you can only log on to the system using the Super User account. You can then change the permissions of the Guest user at a later stage (but only if it is genuinely required to provide necessary access without logging on). A typical use is to create a logged-off Mimic for ViewX, showing any legal warnings and providing a pick action to initiate login. This feature is not supported on Virtual ViewX.

Geo SCADA Expert has a single built-in User Group named Everyone. Every user account that is created is automatically associated with the 'Everyone' User Group (see Built-In User Groups), including the Guest user (which does not require a logon). On new installations, the 'Everyone' User Group is inactive and is not assigned any security permissions by default.

The Guest user account and Everyone user group should not be used. Instead, you should add 'configured' User Accounts and User Groups to the system and grant them the relevant security access and privileges. This provides greater flexibility and control over the functionality and features to which individual users, or groups of users, have access.

Some third-party applications such as OPC clients that do not support 'OPC Private Security' will need to use the Guest user to access Geo SCADA Expert. They require the Guest user account to have at least the Read permission so that they can access system data. This permission can be applied just to the objects which the application needs to read.

The Guest user account is not available on Virtual ViewX clients.
