You can configure an X-Y-Z Plot to include one or more traces. Each trace shows the values from a single source, such as a point or master station accumulator. The source needs to have its Historic feature enabled, so that Geo SCADA Expert keeps a historic record of the item's values. The trace shows the source's values over the time period defined by the X-Y-Z Plot's Time axis.

UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR OF APPLICATION
We recommend that you set the Range limits for an X-Y-Z Plot's x-axis before you add traces to the Plot (see Configure the Axis Range). Geo SCADA Expert takes the limits into account when it calculates the positions at which it places traces along the x-axis. If you change the x-axis range after you add traces to the X-Y-Z Plot, the traces will appear to 'move' along the x-axis in relation to the range change, to retain their existing position. If you reduce the x-axis range so that it no longer accommodates a trace, you can use the Zoom In or Out feature to view the trace.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in unexpected configuration changes.
To add a trace to an X-Y-Z Plot:
- Display the X-Y-Z Plot in Design mode (see Display an X-Y-Z Plot in Design Mode).
- Ensure that the X-Y-Z Plot's x-axis Range is set to the required limits (see Configure the Axis Range).
(Geo SCADA Expert takes the existing range into account when calculating the position at which each trace is placed along the x-axis.) - Either:
- Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar).
- Expand the tree structure to locate the database item that is to be the source of the trace.
- Drag the database item from the Database Bar to a suitable position on the X-Y-Z Plot's x-axis.
The item's trace is added to the X-Y-Z Plot. The trace uses the Plot's default settings.
Or:
- Right-click on a blank part of the X-Y-Z Plot's x-axis.
A context-sensitive menu is displayed. - Select the Add Trace option.
The Trace Properties window is displayed. Use the window to specify the trace's source and configure the trace's properties (see Configure a Trace).
Or:
- Display the OPC Historic Data Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar in ViewX in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients).
- Expand the OPC tree structure to locate the item that is to be the source of the trace.
- Drag the item from the OPC Historic Data Bar to a suitable position on the X-Y-Z Plot's x-axis.
The item's trace is added to the X-Y-Z Plot. The trace uses the Plot's default settings.
Once you have added a trace to an X-Y-Z Plot, you can perform further trace-related activities, such as:
- Configure the trace's properties (see Configure a Trace)
- Adjust the position of the trace on the X-Y-Z Plot (see Position the Traces on an X-Y-Z Plot).
