Restart Level
When a file is added to the Geo SCADA Expert database, ready for downloading to a SCADAPack E outstation, the action that Geo SCADA Expert is to perform following the downloading of that file is specified in the Re-Start Level column of the Configuration Setup Window.
The following Restart Levels are available:
- Cold Reset—An orderly shutdown and restart of the outstation is performed—this is the equivalent of power cycling the outstation. Any event data that is stored in the outstation’s Event Buffer is retained.
A Cold Reset drops the outputs of the outstation. Binary outputs are turned off, and analog outputs drop to their calibrated zero count (typically 4mA).
- Config—The outstation processes the configuration file that Geo SCADA Expert downloads. This adds any new points, updates the properties of existing points, and deletes any points that no longer exist in the Geo SCADA Expert database.
Any points that are currently in use by IEC 61131-3 applications are not fully deleted from the outstation’s configuration until the outstation is Cold Reset.
- IEC 61131-3—The IEC 61131-3 applications in the outstation are restarted.
An IEC 61131-3 restart drops any outputs of the outstation that are controlled by IEC 61131-3 at the time the IEC 61131-3 application is restarted. Binary outputs are turned off, and analog outputs drop to their calibrated zero count (typically 4mA). Points with active interlocks (see Configure an Output Point or Pulse Action’s Interlock Properties) do not drop their outputs.
- License & Cold Reset—The outstation’s license service is restarted. Following this, a Cold Reset is performed (see above).
- None—Applies to files such as the Configuration Log File, which are not downloaded to the outstation.
- Profile—The outstation’s Profiler task is restarted. This causes any profile files to be reprocessed.
- Warm Reset—The outstation’s DNP3 driver is restarted. Any event data that is stored in the outstation’s Event Buffer is retained.
