Supported File Types
The types of file that you can download to a SCADAPack E outstation via Geo SCADA Expert include:
- RTU Configuration Files (.RTU)—In order to configure SCADAPack E functionality not supported by Geo SCADA Expert, you can create up to two files containing additional configuration information. One file can be prepended to the beginning of the configuration created by Geo SCADA Expert, and one file can be appended to the end of the configuration created by Geo SCADA Expert.
- IEC 61131-3 Files (.X8M for Version 3) (.I5P for Version 5)—For IEC 61131-3 version 3, you can add up to two IEC 61131-3 files to the Geo SCADA Expert database, so that Geo SCADA Expert can download the files to the outstation. For IEC 61131-3 version 5, you can add only one IEC 61131-3 5 package file to the Geo SCADA Expert database. The package file can contain up to two IEC 61131-3targets.
For more information about the naming conventions that are required when importing IEC 61131-3 files into Geo SCADA Expert, see File Restrictions
When you configure a SCADAPack E outstation, you can specify in Geo SCADA Expert which IEC 61131-3 version the outstation is running. For more information, see Specify the IEC 61131-3 Version Running in the Outstation.
- Configuration Files (.CONF)—You can add NTP configuration files to the Geo SCADA Expert database, so that Geo SCADA Expert can download the files to the outstation.
The NTP configuration file must be named NTP.CONF
- License Files (.LIC)—You can add license files to the Geo SCADA Expert database. Geo SCADA Expert can then be used to download the licenses to the outstation, to allow software to run at that outstation.
License files are generated based on the serial number of the SCADAPack E outstation. License files that are generated for one outstation will not enable the features on any other outstation.
- Profile Files—The profiler is an advanced feature of the SCADAPack E outstation that modifies the properties and values of points in the outstation based on a user-defined time profile. You can configure the required Profiles in Geo SCADA Expert, then download the Profile configuration, in the form of Profile Files, to the outstation.
You can also generate temporary copies of the Profile Files for diagnostic purposes (see Generate Configuration and Profile Files for Diagnostic Purposes).
For information on configuring Profiles in Geo SCADA Expert, see Configuring DNP3 SCADAPack Profiles.
For more information on the E outstations’ Profile support, see the SCADAPack E Profiler User and Reference Manual.
- Binary Files—Any file containing binary data can be downloaded to the SCADAPack E outstation.
In order to import any of these files successfully into Geo SCADA Expert, you need to ensure that the files comply with certain File Restrictions.
Whenever Geo SCADA Expert downloads any RTU Configuration files to a DNP3 SCADAPack E outstation, a log file is added to the list in the Configuration Setup window. You can use this ASCII file for diagnostic purposes (see Configuration Log File).
