Displaying a Database Item’s References

Providing that your User Account is assigned the Browse security permission for the database item in which you are interested, you can use the Display References window to display a list of:

You can use this list to view database items that will be affected by changes to the selected database item.

The list shows, for example, the name of:

To display the full name and path of a list item in the form of a ToolTip, place your cursor over the list item in the Display References window.

To display a list of references for a particular database item:

  1. Display the database item’s context-sensitive Object Menu (for example, right-click on the item’s entry in the Database Bar).
  2. Select the Display References option.
The Display References window is displayed to the right-hand side of the document display area.

    The window includes these folders:

    • The Referenced From folder contains a list of database items that have references to the selected database item.
    • The Referencing folder contains a list of database items to which there are references from the selected database item.

By default, Geo SCADA Expert displays collapsed folders.

  3. To view the referenced database items, expand the folders:

If Geo SCADA Expert finds no references, then you will see the text 'No references' below the relevant folder name.

You can expand any database item in the list to display the references to and from that item, as shown below:

The message 'already evaluated in this hierarchy' indicates that there is no further evaluation of the object references.

You can right-click on a database item in the list to display a context-sensitive menu. The menu options available to you will depend on the type of the database item and your security permissions. For example, you might be able to edit the database item's properties to change its references. For more information about these menu options, see Object Menu Options.

You can filter the entries that appear in the Display References window. To do this, in the Filter field at the top of the window, start to type part of the name of the entries in which you are interested. The entries that are shown in the window are filtered as you type, to just leave those entries for which the full name includes the text that you entered. (The full name includes the path in which the items are located in the database.) You can enter text that appears anywhere within the items' full name.

Filtering applies to all database entries for which the name includes the filtered text. The 'Referenced From' and 'Referencing' entries are exempt from the filter and are included to maintain the hierarchical appearance of the filtered database entries in the window.
