Defining an Item or Group’s Alarm Properties
Use the fields on the Alarm tab (of an individual database item) or Group tab (of a Group, Group Template, or Group Instance) to define the general alarm-related properties for that item.
With a Group, Group Template, or Group Instance, use the Group tab to:
- Define an Alarm View—a Mimic or Trend that users can view whenever an alarm is raised for any item in the Group (unless an item has its own Alarm View)
- Request Confirmation Before Disabling or Enabling Alarms—optionally check whether a user genuinely wants to disable or enable alarms before executing the request.
(A further field on the tab is used for Defining a Default View.)
Any individual item that can have an alarm has an Alarm tab on its configuration Form. Use the Alarm tab to:
- Define an Alarm View—a Mimic or Trend that users can view whenever an alarm is raised for the item (such a view takes precedence over any Group Alarm View)
- Configure a Method Action to Trigger at Every Alarm State Change—trigger an action automatically whenever an alarm is raised for the item
- Request Confirmation Before Disabling or Enabling Alarms—optionally check whether a user genuinely wants to disable or enable the item’s alarms before executing such a request
- Specify an Alternative Alarm Source Name—optionally assign an ‘Alarm Source’ name to identify the source of an alarm, rather than the full path of the item with which the alarm is associated
- Configure any Alarm Suppression Requirements—to help prevent the system from being ‘flooded’ with multiple alarms.
