Create and Configure a Data Set

A Data Set is a collection of object references to functionally constrained data objects or functionally constrained data attributes. These references are the members of the data set and define the data which can be polled or transmitted in a report. A data set can also contain references to data objects or data attributes from different logical nodes.

You use a Data Set database item to represent a data set in an IED IED from a substation with which Geo SCADA Expert is to interact using the IEC 61850 protocol.

To create and configure a Data Set in the database:

  1. Right-click on the IED database item to display a context-sensitive menu. Select the Create or Update Data Sets and Report Control Blocks pick action to generate the Data Sets that are defined in the SCL file for the IED.
  2. Either collapse and expand the hierarchy or press F5 to refresh the database.
  3. Click on theIED database folder where you have created the Data Set database items.
The Data Set database items that have been created are displayed.

The following properties are configured automatically:

We recommend that you create the Data Set database item automatically, rather than manually. If you create the Data Set database item manually, you have to configure the properties manually. The configuration settings will be internally validated automatically and have to match the SCL file configuration, otherwise a diagnostic message might get displayed or the database item might not communicate successfully with the IED.
