Tune Alarm Limits
Associated with: SCADAPack x70 Analog and Counter-type points
This pick action is only available on a point on which:
- The Tune Limits feature is enabled.
- Your User Account is allocated the Tune Limits security permission.
This pick action is common to the database items on many drivers, but functions slightly differently on a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point and the associated Configuration item.
Use the Tune Alarm Limits pick action to temporarily alter a point’s alarm limits during exceptional circumstances. For example, in bad weather conditions when a flood situation is known to exist, you might want to tune a point’s limits to stop unnecessary alarms from being raised.
Select the Tune Alarm Limits pick action to display the Tune Alarm Limits window.
The Tune Alarm Limits window only includes entries for those limits that are enabled on the Configuration item with which the point is associated. The window indicates the limits that are currently in force. Geo SCADA Expert displays the point’s full range of values in parentheses on the right-hand side of the window.
If the tuned point is an analog point, then the point's full range is indicated in the Alarm Limits section of the SCADAPack x70 point's form with various properties being inherited from the Configuration item with which it is associated. If the tuned point is a counter point, then the point's range is fixed (but scaled).
To apply tuning to an enabled alarm limit, on the Tune Alarm Limits window, select the check box(es) of those limit(s) that you want to tune and then specify the required temporary limits in the adjacent fields. Specify values that are within the range that is configured for the point.
When tuning is applied to a SCADAPack x70 device's point:
- The associated Configuration item and any other SCADAPack x70 points associated with the Configuration item are also tuned.
- The alarm limit values and enabled status are determined and inherited from the Configuration item with which the SCADAPack x70 point is associated.
- An Alarm Limits status attribute is included on Status displays of the SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point(s) and the Configuration item with which they are associated.
-
An entry is logged in the Event Journal, listing the temporary limits. (Any limits on an analog point that are disabled and therefore can't be tuned are indicated by the word 'Disabled' in the Event Journal.)
-
Geo SCADA Expert downloads the tuned configuration to the device on which the point is located.
To remove any tuning, from the SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point, select the Tune Alarm Limits pick action to display the Tune Alarm Limits window and clear the check boxes. An entry will be logged in the Event Journal, stating that the alarm limits have been returned to their configured defaults.
NOTE: If using this pick action with the Automation Interface, you have to specify the method name TuneLimits.
