Tune Limits

You use the Tune Limits action to temporarily alter a point’s alarm limits during exceptional circumstances. For example, in bad weather conditions when a flood situation is known to exist, you might want to tune a point’s limits to stop unnecessary alarms from being raised.

The <Point Type> tab on the Form of a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point includes a Tune Limits check box in the Alarm Limits section. You use the check box to define whether tuning can be applied to the SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point. Select the Tune Limits check box to enable tuning, or clear the check box if you do not want to tune any alarm limits of that SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point.

You can tune the alarm limits using the Tune Alarm Limits pick action when the Tune Limits check box is selected.

Tune Alarm Limits when Using RTU Alarm Limits

When a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is configured to inherit its alarm limits from its associated Configuration item, then the alarm limits in the RTU will be tuned. Tuning is applied to the point, the associated Configuration item and any other points that are associated with the same Configuration item. This includes automatically downloading the new alarm limits to the SCADAPack x70 device. In addition to the Alarm Limits attribute on the Status display of a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point, the associated Configuration item's Status display also includes the Alarm Limits attribute to show the tuning that is currently applied.

You can only tune the alarm limits that are enabled. Which limits are enabled is defined on the associated Configuration item and inherited by the protocol-specific point.

To remove any tuning, from the SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point, select the Tune Alarm Limits pick action to display the Tune Alarm Limits window and clear the tuned alarm limits check boxes. An entry will be logged in the Event Journal, stating that the Alarm Limits have been returned to their configured defaults.

The tuning is automatically removed from both the Configuration item and the associated SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point if a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is disconnected from a Configuration item or deleted whilst tuned. The tuning is removed from the Configuration item only when the last SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is either deleted or disconnected from the Configuration item if two or more SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific points are associated with the same Configuration item. This event is logged in the Event Journal.

The tuning is automatically removed from all the associated SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific points if a Configuration item is deleted whilst tuned.

Tune Alarm Limits when Using Local Alarm Limits

When a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point is configured to use its own local alarm limits, then only these local alarm limits will be tuned. For more information, see Define whether a Point uses the RTU Alarm Limits and see Tune Alarm Limits.
