Specify the Default Setting for the Database Emulation Feature

Do not confuse this check box on the Server Configuration Tool with the 'Deactivate database version emulation' option that is available from the context-sensitive menu on the Server icon when Database Emulation is enabled on the server. It is the latter option that you use to deactivate the Database Emulation that is currently enabled (see Disable Database Emulation after a Successful Upgrade), rather than the check box that is documented below.

When you upgrade the version of Geo SCADA Expert software that is running on the servers on your system, you can opt to use Database Emulation. When enabled, the database files continue to be saved in the format of the earlier database version (the one that was running on the servers just prior to the upgrade). This can prove a useful temporary stage while you run checks to ensure that the upgrade has been successful (see Types of Emulation Supported by Geo SCADA Expert).

When you upgrade, the setting that you apply to the check box on the Database Emulation Configuration page of the Geo SCADA Expert Installation Wizard is stored on the server. The same setting is then offered by default the next time that Geo SCADA Expert is upgraded on that server. If you wish, you can change the default setting of that check box. To do this:

  1. Access the Geo SCADA Expert Server Configuration Tool.

  2. Expand the System Configuration branch.

  3. Select the Version Emulation entry.

  4. In the Database files to be saved in previous version during next upgrade section, perform one of the following:

    Either:

    • Select the Enable check box.

The check box on the Database Emulation Configuration page of the Geo SCADA Expert Installation Wizard will be enabled by default the next time that Geo SCADA Expert is upgraded on the server.

    Or:

    • Clear the check box. (This is the default setting.)

The check box on the Database Emulation Configuration page of the Geo SCADA Expert Installation Wizard will be clear by default the next time that Geo SCADA Expert is upgraded on the server.

  5. Apply the changes to the server.

  6. Repeat the above procedure on the other servers on your system, as applicable.

Regardless of the setting that applies to this check box, you can still opt to enable or disable Database Emulation during the actual upgrade process. (This setting merely affects the default that is offered during the installation process and that is applied if the user selects the Next button on the Installation Wizard without changing the setting that is offered at the time.)
