Outstation Promotion
Outstations on the Kingfisher driver can be promoted to a higher and more frequent level of data extraction upon request. The data from such outstations is then scanned during a Promotion Window. Promotion can be instigated:
- Using the Promote Scanning pick action.
- Automatically following a control.
- Automatically while displaying the data for any points on the outstation.
For further information, see Temporarily Increasing the Scan Rate.
The period for which an outstation can remain in the promoted state is limited. When the promotion period expires, any outstation that is still in the promoted state will be returned to the normal scan state by the driver. This stops outstations from being left in the promoted state accidentally. Promoted outstations can also be returned to the normal system scan by operator request if the promotion was manually initiated (see Temporarily Increasing the Scan Rate), or by closing any displays that show point data for an outstation that is promoted while its points are on display.
Both primary and secondary data may be extracted from outstations during a Promotion window. Outstations that are promoted are still included within the normal system scan—the Promotion window occurs in addition to the normal scan.
For each channel on the Kingfisher driver, you need to specify appropriate promotion periods in these fields on the Kingfisher Direct Channel Form:
- Promoted Scan
- Maximum Promoted Scan
- Maximum Promoted Secondary Scan.
For information on configuring promoted scan rates on the Channel Form, see Define the Permitted Scan Durations.
If required, you can configure individual outstations to have different normal and promoted scan rates to those specified on the channel. Where such rates exist, the driver takes into account the scan rates specified on the Outstation Form rather than those on the Channel Form. For information on configuring scan (poll) rates on the Outstation Form, see Specify the Polling Intervals and Offset.
For information on how the fields’ settings affect outstation promotion, see Promotion Window.
