Configuring Totalflow devices in Geo SCADA Expert

On a Geo SCADA Expert system, you configure the Geo SCADA Expert database so that entries in the database correspond to the plant, measuring instruments, and control devices on your system. This section summarizes the database items that you need to configure to represent the Totalflow devices on your system.

To represent any such devices, theTotalflow Driver has to be installed and running on the Geo SCADA Expert servers on your system. The Geo SCADA Expert Totalflow Driver supports communication with Totalflow devices that support ABB’s DB2 (Database 2) communications protocol. This includes Model 6400, 6700 and XSeries devices.

When you configure Totalflow items in the Geo SCADA Expert database, many of the settings for those items need to correspond to the settings of the relevant Totalflow devices on your system. Some settings are either fixed (incorporated into the design of the device), or are configured by an engineer. You need to have access to, or an understanding of, the settings of the Totalflow devices on your system before you can configure the Totalflow database items successfully.

Each Totalflow device, including Geo SCADA Expert, has an document that describes what functionality is provided by the device. For each device with which you want Geo SCADA Expert to communicate refer to that device’s documentation to compare the supported features of that device against the Totalflow features that Geo SCADA Expert supports (and that are listed as such in Geo SCADA Expert's interoperability document). You also need to be aware of the address settings and any options that are set on your devices. You can then refer to this Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Totalflow Driver for information on how to configure those features and options in Geo SCADA Expert.

You also need to be aware of which optional features are required for each Totalflow item. These features include:

You can also use core Geo SCADA Expert features with Totalflow database items, including Lists, Actions, and Mimics. For actions that are specific to the Totalflow driver, see Using Totalflow Specific Actions. For further information on actions and details on Lists and Mimics, see the core documentation.

For each Totalflow device with which Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate you need to configure:

  1. A Totalflow Channel to represent each communication between a Totalflow device and the Geo SCADA Expert server (see Totalflow Channel).
  2. A Totalflow Scanner to represent each scanner connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server (see Totalflow Scanner).
  3. At least one of the following Totalflow points to represent a Totalflow device:

To minimize the time that it takes to configure the required Totalflow items, you may want to configure them in the order listed above, as Scanner configuration requires you to specify a Channel, and Point configuration requires that you specify a Scanner, and so on.

Data Tables are generic database objects. For information about configuring a Data Table to hold Totalflow events, see Event Data Table.
