Supported System Setups

The Simple Trio Diagnostics driver enables Geo SCADA Expert to retrieve diagnostics data from various types of Trio radio (see Trio Radio Series Supported by the Simple Trio Diagnostics Driver). The driver enables Geo SCADA Expert to communicate with network(s) of Trio radios, via one or more Trio ‘base’ radios. A ‘base’ radio might be any of several radio products, such as a Trio base station, or a Trio remote data radio unit. Each ‘base’ radio provides the communications link with other remote Trio radios.

Depending on the radio series and system setup, Geo SCADA Expert can communicate with a Trio ‘base’ radio using a direct serial connection (such as RS-232) or a TCP/IP connection. The latter connection type can be used to enable the Geo SCADA Expert server to connect directly to a J Series ‘base’ radio, or connect to a Terminal Server or similar device, which itself provides a serial connection to the Trio radio. With the latter setup, no Terminal Server database item is needed to represent the Terminal Server or similar device in the Geo SCADA Expert database, as that device is merely providing a communications path to the ‘base’ radio; however the Trio Diagnostics Channel database item has to be configured to represent the communications link between Geo SCADA Expert and the Terminal Server.

When the Simple Trio Diagnostics driver sends a request for data to a ‘base’ radio, the ‘base’ radio responds by either sending information about its own diagnostics back to Geo SCADA Expert, or by forwarding the request onto the relevant remote Trio radio unit. Each data request and corresponding reply includes the serial number of the relevant radio, to identify the radio with which each message is associated.
