Customize the ViewX Interface
The ViewX interface contains windows that you can arrange to suit your preferences. The interface supports two types of windows:
- Tool Window (used for displaying interface components such as the Explorer Bars and the Messages Window)
- Document Window (used for displaying Mimics, Lists, Trends, Reports, configuration Forms, and so on).
The available arrangement options are described in the following topics:
The customized arrangement of windows is stored locally as a client setting, and is associated with the user account that is active when the customization is performed. This includes the Guest user account if the customization is performed without logging on. This means that your most recent arrangement of windows is restored whenever you log on to the same computer (unless the ViewX client has a Multi-Monitor setup). If no one is logged on, the most recent arrangement for the Guest user account is displayed.
Be aware that your user account settings may impact your ability to view multiple displays simultaneously (see Define the General Settings for a User in ViewX) and view some Explorer windows (see Define which Explorer Bars a User can Access in ViewX). Likewise, your user account might restrict your access to particular areas of the system and how you can interact with the displays to which you do have access.
If you tend to start your user session by viewing a particular document each time, consider whether to request for your user account to be configured to display that document as a 'Home Page'. Such a document displays automatically whenever you log on to a ViewX or WebX client.
If a ViewX client has a Multi-Monitor setup:
- Certain documents, such as Alarms Lists or Mimics depicting system overviews, might be configured to display automatically in particular Window Containers whenever you start the ViewX client.
- The start-up settings that define the Multi-Monitor setup override any customization that individual users might apply during a user session. As such, whenever you close and then restart a ViewX client that has a Multi-Monitor setup, only documents that are specified to appear on initial start up are displayed, rather than any customized window arrangement that applied when the client was closed.
- If your user account provides access to a Multi Document Interface, you can:
- Drag document windows from one Window Container to another in a Multi-Monitor setup
- Float and dock document windows in any of the Window Containers
- Arrange multiple document windows into tab groups in any of the Window Containers.
The Alarm Banner has a unique set of configuration options. For more information, see The Alarm Banner.
