Creating and Updating an In-Database Translation Dictionary

The In-Database Translation Dictionary is part of the Geo SCADA Expert database and, for convenience, you can create and maintain it in a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet by using an Excel add-in program. For more information, see Introduction to the In-Database Translation Dictionary.

To create or update an In-Database Translation Dictionary in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. In Excel, select the Geo SCADA Expert Dictionary tab.

  2. If necessary, select Clear Sheet to start with a fresh sheet.

  3. To update an existing In-Database Translation Dictionary, first select Retrieve to download the contents of the dictionary to the spreadsheet (see Retrieve). Otherwise go to the next step.

  4. You can now either:

    Use the standard Excel features to edit your spreadsheet (see the Excel Help for information about the standard features). Repeat this step until you have finished creating entries for the In-Database Translation Dictionary.   5. You now need to save your spreadsheet and upload your entries to the In-Database Translation Dictionary.
    • If you are creating a new In-Database Translation Dictionary, select Upload and Merge (see Upload and Merge).

    • If you are updating an In-Database Translation Dictionary and you want to add your new entries to the existing dictionary (while retaining the existing entries), select Upload and Merge (see Upload and Merge).
    • If you are updating an In-Database Translation Dictionary and you want to completely replace the existing Dictionary entries with your new entries, select Upload and Replace (see Upload and Replace).
