Creating a Geo SCADA Expert Map

You can create single-layer maps or multi-layer composite maps in Geo SCADA Expert, from online or offline mapping sources, which you can then use for a variety of purposes. For example, you can display:

To create a map:

  1. The first step is to specify the source of each map layer (for more about map layers, see About Geo SCADA Expert Maps). You do this by creating and configuring a Map Source database item for each layer. Geo SCADA Expert currently provides access to a number of different Map Sources (see Which Map Sources does Geo SCADA Expert Support?). OpenStreetMap® and Bing Maps® provide base layer maps while ArcGIS® and WMS maps provide a wide range of both base layer and overlay mapping.

For more information about creating and configuring a Map Source, see Creating a Map Source and see Configuring a Map Source.

You can also include Polygon Regions on your maps. These are also offered as overlay options on the map's Layer menu. For more information, see Configuring Polygon Regions.

  2. If you are creating a multi-layer map, with a base layer and overlays, the next step is to create and configure a Map Set database item. The Map Set item will contain a list of all the Map Sources (layers) in your composite map and represents the finished map. If you want, you can provide your users with a choice of base layers and overlays (for more about layers, see Using a Geo SCADA Expert Map).

For more information about creating and configuring a Map Set, see Creating a Map Set and see Configuring a Map Set.

For an example of how you can create a multi-layered map, with a choice of base layers and overlays, see Example - Creating a Multi-Layered Composite Map.

Once you have created your map, your users can then display it in Geo SCADA Expert (see Displaying a Geo SCADA Expert Map) and use the map (see Using a Geo SCADA Expert Map).
