Configure the Partners Settings of a Server

The Server Configuration Tool has a Partners section that you use to define the server architecture of your system.

For Setting up Hot-Standby:

Ideally, you should set up the hot-standby configuration before creating any items in the database. However, if this is not the case please backup your database first before making any changes.

  1. Starting with the original server in your setup (the server on which any database items have been configured). Change the Server Type to Hot-Standby Pair (see Configure a Hot-Standby Pair).
  2. On the Standby tab, configure the Standby A IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses to match the details of the partner.
  3. Configure the required Connection Security settings (see Connection Security Tab (for Server-to-Server Communications)).
  4. If your system includes any Permanent Standby servers, configure the Permanent standby IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses. These settings are on the Permanent Standby tab.
  5. Geo SCADA Expert can synchronize the Permission Restrictions settings on the Permanent Standby servers with the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions that are configured on the Main server. If this synchronization is required, select the Enabled check box in the Permission Restrictions section of the Permanent Standby tab. Also configure the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions as required.
  6. Save the changes in the Server Configuration Tool.
  7. Stop the server. Once stopped, restart the server and wait for it to go main.
  8. Move to the new server that you are adding as a partner, which should be currently running as main with a blank database.
  9. Change the Server Type to Hot-Standby Pair.
  10. On the Standby tab, configure the Standby A IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses of the original server.
  11. Configure the required Connection Security settings (see Connection Security Tab (for Server-to-Server Communications)).
  12. If your system includes any Permanent Standby servers, configure the Permanent standby IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses. These settings are on the Permanent Standby tab.
  13. Geo SCADA Expert can synchronize the Permission Restrictions settings on the Permanent Standby servers with the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions that are configured on the Main server. If this synchronization is required, select the Enabled check box in the Permission Restrictions section of the Permanent Standby tab. Also configure the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions as required.
  14. Save the changes in the Server Configuration Tool.
  15. Stop the server. Once stopped, restart the server and wait for it to start synchronizing and then go standby.

For Setting up Triple-Standby:

Ideally you should setup the triple-standby configuration before creating any items in the database. However, if this is not the case backup your database first before making any changes.

  1. Starting with the original server in your setup (the server on which any database items have been configured). Change the Server Type to Triple Standby (see Configure Triple Standby).
  2. On the Standby tab, configure the Standby A and Standby B IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses to match the details of the partners.
  3. Configure the required Connection Security settings (see Connection Security Tab (for Server-to-Server Communications)).
  4. If your system includes any Permanent Standby servers, configure the Permanent standby IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses. These settings are on the Permanent Standby tab.
  5. Geo SCADA Expert can synchronize the Permission Restrictions settings on the Permanent Standby servers with the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions that are configured on the Main server. If this synchronization is required, select the Enabled check box in the Permission Restrictions section of the Permanent Standby tab. Also configure the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions as required.
  6. Save the changes in the Server Configuration Tool.
  7. Stop the server. Once stopped, restart the server and wait for it to go main.
  8. Move to the next server that you are adding as a partner, which should be currently running as main with a blank database.
  9. Change the Server Type to Triple Standby.
  10. On the Standby tab, configure the Standby A and Standby B IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses, these should be the address of the original server and the other partner.
  11. Configure the required Connection Security settings (see Connection Security Tab (for Server-to-Server Communications)).
  12. If your system includes any Permanent Standby servers, configure the Permanent standby IP addresses, ports and any ICMP monitor IP addresses. These settings are on the Permanent Standby tab.
  13. Geo SCADA Expert can synchronize the Permission Restrictions settings on the Permanent Standby servers with the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions that are configured on the Main server. If this synchronization is required, select the Enabled check box in the Permission Restrictions section of the Permanent Standby tab. Also configure the Permanent Standby Permission Restrictions as required.
  14. Save the changes in the Server Configuration Tool.
  15. Stop the server. Once stopped, restart the server and wait for it to start synchronizing and then go standby.
  16. Move to the final server you are adding as a partner.
  17. Repeat steps 9 to 15.
WARNING

COMPLETE LOSS OF CONFIGURATION

When setting up a main-standby system, make sure that you restart the servers in the correct order if objects are already configured in your database. Make sure that the server with objects already configured is started first and is running as main, then start the partner servers and allow them to synchronize with the main server.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. Failure to start the servers in the correct order can result in the complete loss of configuration from the system, requiring recovery from a backup.
