Database Field

Database fields are often used in reports as they allow you to display data directly from the ClearSCADA database.

Before you can add any Database fields to a report, you need to check that:

  1. Crystal Reports has an ODBC connection to the ClearSCADA database (see Connect to the ClearSCADA Database)
  2. The database tables that the report is to access have been specified (see Provide Access to the Relevant Database Tables, and see Specify the Links Between Multiple Tables).

    For complex reports, you may want to use Data Grids or Data Tables to specify the fields that you want to display in a report. You add Data Grid tables and Data Tables to reports in the same way as other database tables. For an example of using a Data Grid in a report, see Embedded Data Grid Content. By default, when you add a Database field to the Details section of a report, the field title is added to the Page Header section of the report (see Understand the Crystal Reports Work Areas). In some instances, you may want to replace the default text for a title with a custom title.

To specify a custom title:

  1. Right-click on the field title in the Page Header.
    A context sensitive menu is displayed.
  2. Select the Edit Text option.
    The cursor is positioned in the field title box, ready for you to modify the text.
  3. Enter the required title for the field.

If you do not want a field title to be inserted whenever you add a field to a report, clear the Insert Detail Field Headings check box on the Layout tab in the Options window.
