Configuring a Simple Modbus Scanner
A Simple Modbus Scanner is logical functionality that runs within Geo SCADA Expert and scans for data on a Modbus PLC or a Modbus Slave.
Configure a scanner for:
- Each register range that you want to scan on a device
- Each group of points that you want to scan at a different frequency or time offset.
We recommend that you configure separate scanners to scan different blocks of registers in a range, if those blocks are some distance apart. This is more efficient than having one scanner scan a large range that includes many unused registers.
You can configure a Scanner’s properties using the fields on the Simple Modbus Scanner Form. The Form has several tabs:
- Use the fields on the Scanner tab to specify the scan properties, such as the scan rate and the type of data to be scanned (see Configure the Scanner Properties).
- Use the fields on the Primary Port and Secondary Port tabs to specify how many ports are available for the scanner, and the type of connection used (see Configure the Primary and Secondary Port Properties).
- For fields on other tabs, see Tabs That are Common to Many Configuration Forms in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Simple Drivers.
For information on the minimal amount of configuration that you can undertake to produce a functional Simple Modbus Scanner in Geo SCADA Expert, see Minimum Configuration.
For examples showing how to configure a scanner to fulfill Modbus scanning requirements, see Configuration Examples.
