Introduction to the Pager Driver
This driver is a stand-alone driver. It provides additional functionality to enable Geo SCADA Expert to interface with specific supported systems or devices. To interact successfully with such systems or devices, you need to:
- Install and run the driver
- Ensure that the driver is licensed
- Configure the required database items and settings on the driver
- Ensure that the database items (and any database items on which they depend) have valid, saved, configuration and are 'In Service'.
Intended Audience
This guide is designed to be used by engineer-level users who are responsible for configuring the system and devices to communicate via the following protocols:
- TAP - Telocator Alphanumeric input Protocol
- Multitone
- UCP - Universal Computer Protocol
- SMS - Short Message Service.
Document Scope
This guide explains how to configure and operate your Geo SCADA Expert system so that it can communicate with pager devices and mobile telephones.
This guide contains technical information that is intended for users that are sufficiently familiar with Geo SCADA Expert configuration and operation. Before reading this driver guide, ensure that you are familiar with:
- Geo SCADA Expert configuration practices, procedures, and the configuration of properties that are common to many database items. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration, and the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Point Configuration.
- Driver structure, components, and configuration properties, pick actions, and status attributes that are common to many drivers. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Drivers.
Some sections of this guide are intended for operator-level users. These sections are intended for users that are familiar with the navigational and operational aspects of Geo SCADA Expert. Before reading the operational sections in this guide, ensure that you are familiar with:
- The Geo SCADA Expert user interfaces (ViewX and Virtual ViewX), the various types of display, their navigation and operation. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients.
In this Guide, we provide information about the Pager driver and explain how you can configure your Geo SCADA Expert system to utilize its features. When you have configured your Pager Services, Pager Channels, and User accounts as described, you will be able to use Geo SCADA Expert to send messages to pager devices and mobile telephones.
The information in the Pager Driver Guide is designed to provide you with information on the pager-specific properties that you will need to use when configuring your system to use the Pager Driver. For information on those properties that feature on Pager items and displays but are not specific to pagers, you should refer to the core (non-driver-specific) documentation.
If you are familiar with how the Pager Driver works and the protocols it supports, we recommend that you refer to Configuring Pager Devices in Geo SCADA Expert. There, you will find information on the various items you need to configure to allow the Pager Driver to send messages to pagers and mobile telephones.
When you have configured the necessary database items, you can use Geo SCADA Expert's actions to send messages manually. Alternatively, you can configure Geo SCADA Expert to send messages in response to alarms or periodically.
