Configure SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Outstations
The SCADAPack x70 driver can communicate with SCADAPack x70 devices using direct communications or PSTN. The configuration of the channel determines whether the direct communications are on demand or incoming only.
For each SCADAPack x70 DNP3 outstation with which you want Geo SCADA Expert to communicate, you need to configure an appropriate type of SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Outstation item in the Geo SCADA Expert database. You also need to create a corresponding SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item for each outstation that you create, (see Configure a Device Configuration Item).
The SCADAPack x70 DNP3 driver supports these types of outstation:

For communicating with a SCADAPack x70 outstation using a direct connection (for example, direct serial, radio, or network).
Depending on the system set-up, a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Direct Outstation can belong to a DNP3 Direct Outstation Set, or a DNP3 Switched Outstation Set (see Configuring a DNP3 Outstation Set).
A DNP3 SCADAPack x70 Direct Outstation can optionally be configured with PSTN fallback, so that the outstation can still communicate with the server if Geo SCADA Expert deems the direct channel to have failed.

For communicating with a SCADAPack x70 outstation using a dial-up modem. Each SCADAPack x70 DNP3 PSTN Outstation has to belong to a DNP3 PSTN Outstation Set.

For communication with a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 outstation that can use either of two channels. The outstation has to be associated with a DNP3 Shared Outstation Set (each outstation in a Shared Set can communicate with the server via either channel).
If the system set-up allows, a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Shared outstation can optionally be configured with PSTN fallback so that the outstation can still communicate with the server if Geo SCADA Expert deems both direct channels to have failed.
UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR OF APPLICATION
‘Heartbeating’ is not supported by SCADAPack x70 DNP3 outstations. Attempts to use Heartbeating on such outstations may cause erroneous behavior.
To configure a SCADAPack x70 DNP3 outstation, you configure the outstation’s properties using the fields on the DNP3 Direct Outstation Form, the DNP3 Shared Outstation Form, or the DNP3 PSTN Outstation Form, as appropriate.
The following tabs are common to all types of SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Outstations:
This tab allows you to specify the basic outstation properties, see Define the Basic Outstation Properties.
This tab allows you to specify the DNP3 properties that are common to many DNP3 outstations (see Configuring a DNP3 Outstation).
Specify the DNP3 Secure Authentication properties that are common to many DNP3 outstations (see Configure the Security Properties).
For each SCADAPack x70 DNP3 outstation that you create you need to configure a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item, (see Configure a Device Configuration Item). Use this tab to associate the Device Configuration item with the outstation.
Use the fields on the PSTN tab for DNP3 PSTN Outstations and DNP3 Direct Outstations or DNP3 Shared Outstations that are configured to use PSTN fallback to:
- Define the Common PSTN Properties (see Define an Outstation’s PSTN Properties)
- Specify Whether Geo SCADA Expert is to Constantly Poll an Outstation During an Open Line Call
- Configure the Dial In Lines (see Define Dial In Line Properties on a PSTN Outstation). DNP3 outstations can support up to 8 Dial In lines for reporting alarm data to Geo SCADA Expert.
- Configure the Dial In Overactive properties (see Define Dial In Overactive Properties on a PSTN Outstation).
If a device on your system uses network connected channel(s) to communicate with the server, use the fields on the Network tab of the associated Outstation Form to define that outstation’s network properties, see Define an Outstation's Network Properties.
