Configuring a Sofrel Outstation

For each Sofrel outstation that exists on your system, you need to create and configure a corresponding outstation database entry within the Geo SCADA Expert database. When configuring the database, you need to select the type(s) of outstation and communications that match those of your system hardware.

The types of outstation that the Sofrel driver supports are listed below. For further information on which type(s) of outstation are appropriate representations of your system setup, see Outstation Types and Communications Set-ups.

The Sofrel driver supports these types of outstation:

Sofrel Direct Outstation

An outstation that is directly connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server, for example, via a cable, network, or a continuous radio signal.

Depending on the system setup, a Sofrel Direct Outstation can belong to a Direct or Switched Outstation Set.

Sofrel Shared Outstation

An outstation that is directly connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server. The outstation can communicate with the server using either of two channels. Each outstation in a Shared Outstation Set can communicate via either channel, see Define an Outstations Shared Properties.

Sofrel PSTN Outstation

An outstation that uses a dial-up modem to communicate with the Geo SCADA Expert server, see Define an Outstations PSTN Properties. The outstation has to belong to a PSTN Outstation Set.

For each Sofrel outstation on your system, you specify the outstation features using the fields on the appropriate Sofrel Outstation Form. For more information, see the topics that are listed in the gray footer section at the bottom of this topic. Select the relevant entry to display the topic that you require.

Minimum Configuration

For a Sofrel outstation to become functional (online) you need configure these features, then put the outstation In Service and save the configuration:

These are the minimum requirements and, when configured, will result in a functional Sofrel outstation that uses the default configuration settings.

Each Form has several tabs. This section covers configuration of driver-specific properties on the Sofrel and PSTN tabs.

The fields on the other tabs are common to outstations on many advanced drivers—for information, see Tabs on Outstation Forms.
