Notes on Configuring SCADAPack E Outstations
This section details some important information when using Geo SCADA Expert to configure a DNP3 SCADAPack E outstation.
- When modifications are made the configuration of DNP3 SCADAPack E outstation database items, Geo SCADA Expert determines the outstation Restart Level that is required to apply the modifications. This may result in one or more of the following occurring at the outstation:
- A restart of the DNP3 driver in the outstation—This has no effect on physical outputs or the running ISaGRAF applications.
- A restart of the ISaGRAF application—The physical outputs will drop. Binary outputs will be turned off, and analog outputs will be set to their calibrated minimum (typically 4mA).
- A restart of the Profiler—The new profile settings will be applied to any profiled points with no intermediate transition. This will not effect the running ISaGRAF application(s).
- A restart of the Sampler—This has no effect on physical outputs or the running ISaGRAF application(s).
- A complete Cold Reset—The physical outputs will drop. Binary outputs will be turned off, and analog outputs will be set to their calibrated minimum (typically 4mA).
A Cold Reset is equivalent to power cycling the outstation.
- You may still need to use another application (for example, the E Configurator) to initially setup the SCADAPack E outstation sufficiently for communications with Geo SCADA Expert. Typically, you will only need to setup the DNP3 outstation and master addresses and the communications port to the master (Geo SCADA Expert).
- In addition to the configuration file generated by Geo SCADA Expert, you can also use Geo SCADA Expert to download other files to a SCADAPack E outstation. For more information, see Working with DNP3 SCADAPack E Outstation Configuration Files. Additional files that are typically downloaded to a DNP3 SCADAPack E outstation include:
- Licenses
- Profiler configurations
- Sampler configurations
- ISaGRAF applications.
- You will need to configure the properties on the SCADAPack TCP/IP tab if the outstation uses any form of TCP/IP communications, whether or not TCP/IP is used to communicate with Geo SCADA Expert (see Enable or Disable TCP/IP Functionality).
- If you are using the PSTN functionality of a DNP3 SCADAPack E outstation, even if PSTN is not used to communicate with Geo SCADA Expert, you will need to configure the fields located within the Modem Parameters section of the SCADAPack tab (see Configure the Modem Parameters).
