Basic Configuration Procedures
You can only configure items in the Geo SCADA Expert database if your User Account is assigned the Configure Database feature and allocated the relevant security permissions (see Database Security).
You configure some types of database item by specifying properties on the relevant configuration Form (see Working with Forms).
Sections within this guide explain the procedures for:
- Adding an item to the database (see Add an Item to the Database)
- Saving Configuration Changes
- Copying a Database Item
On Geo SCADA Expert systems that have multiple databases, you can use Geo SCADA Expert's Import and Export features to duplicate configurations between Geo SCADA Expert databases that are not connected together (see Importing and Exporting Database Items). You can also copy items from one Geo SCADA Expert database and then paste them into another (see Use Copy and Paste to Copy a Database Item).
- Moving a Database Item
- Renaming a Database Item
You can include any alphanumeric characters in the name of an item in the Geo SCADA Expert database. However, there are limitations to the overall length of the name (including the path to that name). There are also restrictions as to which non-alphanumeric Unicode characters you can include in a name. For further information, see Naming Restrictions.
- Deleting a Database Item.
In order for outstations and their component parts (such as points) to communicate correctly with the Geo SCADA Expert server, their database configuration has to be stored at the outstation. With some types of outstation, you can configure the data within Geo SCADA Expert
UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR OF APPLICATION
Where a database item references another item (for instance, a point references the outstation on which it is located), you can display a list of those references (see Displaying a Database Item’s References). Be aware of these references should you move, copy, or delete an item in your database.
Further Information
Keep a detailed record of the property changes made on your system: see Configuration Changes Auditing.
