Actions that are Common to Many Drivers

Geo SCADA Expert supports a wide variety of operator-driven or automated actions and controls. When performed by an operator, the actions are typically selected from a context sensitive pop-up menu (see Object Menu).

This section covers actions that are commonly supported by items on many drivers in Geo SCADA Expert. For more information, see the topics that are listed in the gray footer section at the bottom of this topic. Select the relevant entry to display the topic that you require.

Be aware that some pick actions on your system might:

  • Require confirmation of your user password before being executed
  • Be configured to display a Notes window, providing further information about the selected action.

For more information, see Requesting Confirmation of Action Requests.

With a ViewX client on a Multi-Monitor Setup, you may be able to select the name of the Window Container in which to display or edit a document. Each Window Container displays on a particular monitor by default. Such options are only available when you select certain Display... or Edit... pick actions from the Database Bar or Operator Documents Bar. For more information, see Ability to Specify the Window Container in which to Display or Edit a Document.

The pick actions in ViewX and Virtual ViewX represent just some of the methods that are available to use. To find out about other methods that are available for each type of database item, please refer to the Database Schema. The Database Schema provides details on the name and arguments of each method, so that you can call the methods from your own programs and scripts.

Users with the required privileges can add custom pick actions to a database item by using the User Methods tab on the relevant configuration Form (see Using the User Methods Tab to Define Custom Actions). See a system administrator for the documentation associated with such custom actions (also known as ‘methods’).

On items with which alarms can be associated, several methods are available to enable higher-level users to control alarm redirections via, for example, scripting. Such methods include CancelRedirections, ClearAlarmResponsibility, RestartRedirections, SetAlarmResponsibleUser, and SetAlarmResponsibleWorkstation. These are methods, not pick actions. For further information, see Set Responsibility Action, and see CancelRedirections and RestartRedirections Methods.

Some pick actions and methods require date or time formats to be specified. Product releases from ClearSCADA  2014 R1 inclusive do not support the use of legacy date and time syntax for specifying such formats (see Date and Time). If Geo SCADA Expert deems the format to be invalid, it will use the regionally localized default date and time format (such as dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss:SSS). The default format is determined by the user's Locale settings (see Define the Regional Settings for a User).
