Create and Configure IEC 61850 String Points

Use an IEC 61850 String Point to map the relevant Data Attributes within the IED to a string point in the Geo SCADA Expert database. The item needs to have a suitable data type for a string point to map text strings into Geo SCADA Expert.

You can create String Points in the Geo SCADA Expert database, as defined in the SCL file. For information about how to create points, see Points Used On IEC 61850 Device.

Most data types can be displayed as a string. Configure the properties of each String point using the fields on the IEC 61850 String Point Form.

This section covers configuration of the string-specific properties on the String Point tab and the Write tab of the String point Form. Most of these properties are configured automatically when the points are created. You only need to change the settings if they are to differ from the defaults, or comprise property values that need populating.

The configuration Form contains many fields, organized into tabs. Most of these tabs contain properties that are common to points on many drivers (see Tabs on Point Forms in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers).

Use the String Point tab to:

• Configure General Properties on the String Point tab.
• Define the Format Settings of displayed value.
• Configure Polling.
