Configure a TAP Pager Service
If your pager or mobile telephone provider uses a TAP interface to send messages, you will need to configure TAP Pager Service database items to represent the TAP protocol.
You need to configure one TAP Pager Service for each service provider through which you wish to send messages. For example, in the UK, to send messages through the Vodafone and Orange networks, you would need to configure two TAP Pager Services, one for the Vodafone network and one for the Orange network.
With TAP Pager Services (and UCP Pager Services), you can use multiple channels for redundancy. For example, two Pager Channels could be assigned to the same TAP Pager Service, with one channel acting as a back-up channel in case of difficulties connecting via the other channel. However, each Pager Channel can only be assigned to one Pager Service.
To configure a TAP Pager Service:
- Log on to your system via a User Account that has the Configure Database permission (see Allocating Security Permissions in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Security).
- Display the Pager Service Form for the Pager Service item you want to configure. If the item does not already exist in the database, you will need to Create a Pager Service Database Item.
- Configure the properties on the Identification, User Methods, Alarm, and Redirection tabs as required (see Tabs on Configuration Forms).
- Select the TAP Service tab.
- Configure the 'common' Pager Service properties on the tab (see Configure the Common Pager Service Properties).
- Configure these TAP-specific properties on the tab:
- Password—Some TAP service providers offer a subscription service that is password-protected. If the TAP service used on your system is password-protected, enter the password for your subscription service in the Password field (the password is supplied by the service provider). The password allows Geo SCADA Expert to establish a connection with the TAP Pager Service provider.
- Service Supports a Beep Code—Use to toggle Beep Code support on and off. You should only enable this feature if your Service Provider supports beep codes (can instruct a pager device or mobile telephone to make different sounds). For more information, see Enable or Disable Beep Code Support for a TAP Pager Service.
- Save the configuration (see Saving Configuration Changes in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).
Leave the Password field blank (empty) if your TAP Pager Service provider does not use password-protection.
