Export to RemoteConnect

Security permission required to access this pick action: Read
Geo SCADA Expert stores the configuration settings for a SCADAPack x70 device, along with any SCADAPack x70 logic that has been imported or uploaded into Geo SCADA Expert for that device. In order to use this configuration and logic externally - specifically to export the configuration to SCADAPack RemoteConnect configuration software - you need to export that configuration in a file from Geo SCADA Expert.
Use the Export to RemoteConnect pick action to produce a SCADAPack Import configuration file (.rtz file), that includes configuration and SCADAPack x70 logic for the selected SCADAPack x70 device, ready for importing into RemoteConnect. (SCADAPack x70 logic will only exist in Geo SCADA Expert if that logic has already been imported into Geo SCADA Expert from RemoteConnect, or uploaded from the SCADAPack x70 device. You use the Import from RemoteConnect pick action to import the configuration file, or the Upload Configuration pick action on the associated SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific Outstation item to upload the configuration).
To generate an .rtz file with the required configuration for the selected SCADAPack x70 device:
- Select the Export to Remote Connect pick action.
The Export to RemoteConnect dialog box is displayed. - Select the browse button next to the File Name field.
A File Name window is displayed. Its layout varies, depending on the operating system that you are running. - Use the window to:
- Define the location to which you want Geo SCADA Expert to export the configuration.
- Specify a suitable name for the file into which Geo SCADA Expert is to place the configuration, ready for export to RemoteConnect. The file takes the form of a SCADAPack Import configuration file (.rtz file).
- Select the Save button to confirm the details and close the File Name window.
- Select the OK button for Geo SCADA Expert to create the file and place it at the specified location.
Geo SCADA Expert exports the configuration to the specified file, at the specified location. The file is now ready to be imported into RemoteConnect (see the documentation provided with the SCADAPack RemoteConnect configuration software for information on how to do this).
An export action fails in any of the following situations:
- If there are any configuration errors on the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item (see Configuration Reports for SCADAPack x70 Devices).
- If the current SCADAPack x70 logic configuration of the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration items does not match with the previously imported/uploaded logic configuration (see Specify any SCADAPack x70 Logic Requirements).
The SCADAPack x70 logic configuration refers to the Logic Variable Type and Logic Task of the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration items.
Examples:
The following are some example scenarios that create mismatches which result in a failed export:
- Changing the Logic Variable Type of a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item.
- Changing the Logic Task of an SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item.
- Creating a new SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item with SCADAPack x70 logic configuration.
- Deleting a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item that contains SCADAPack x70 logic configuration.
- Taking a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item that contains SCADAPack x70 logic configuration out of service (this is equivalent to deletion).
- Renaming a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item that contains SCADAPack x70 logic configuration (this is equivalent to creation and deletion).
- Swapping the names of two SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration items of different types that contain SCADAPack x70 logic configuration (for example, an analog and a digital item).
When an export action fails due to any mismatches, the following error message is displayed:
The device configuration object contains errors.
You can track down the cause(s) for the failure by performing the following:
- Select the Display Errors pick action on each of the groups that contain the SCADAPack x70 Device and its Configuration items. Then review the configuration errors that are shown in the Messages Window in ViewX (see Checking for Invalid Configuration).
- Review the configuration of those database items for which the entries are overlaid with red cross marks in the Database Explorer.
If any changes have been made to the configuration that impacts the SCADAPack x70 logic in the .rtz file, you must correct the configuration error by undoing the change(s) in Geo SCADA Expert before exporting the configuration to RemoteConnect.
Any SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration items that are out of service are excluded from the exported configuration and therefore they will not exist in the RTU (see The 'In Service' Check Box and Items Taken Out of Service).
If using this pick action with the Automation Interface, you need to specify the method name ExportRTZ.
