SCADAPack x70

The 'In Service' Check Box and Items Taken Out of Service

Most database items in the SCADAPack x70 driver include an In Service check box on their configuration Forms. The check box provides the same functionality as it does with database items in other drivers (see Placing an Item In Service in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration). With SCADAPack x70 Configuration items (as opposed to protocol-specific database items), the In Service check box defines whether or not a SCADAPack x70 database item is included in the downloaded/exported configuration.

The functionality of the In Service check box that is documented in this topic applies to those SCADAPack x70 Configuration items for which the configuration Form includes an In Service check box.

The In Service check box on the configuration Forms of protocol-specific database items on the SCADAPack x70 driver purely functions as per that of database items on other drivers, rather than as specified in this topic (see Placing an Item In Service in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).

You use the In service check box to specify whether a SCADAPack x70 database item is to be In Service or Out of Service. If you clear the In Service check box, the SCADAPack x70 database item is taken out of service and is excluded from the configuration during a download/export.

During a download/export, if a referenced SCADAPack x70 database item is out of service, the associated database items are not included in the configuration file. For example if an I/O channel on an I/O module references an object that is out of service, the I/O channel will be set as unused in the downloaded/exported configuration.

During an upload/import, the Geo SCADA Expert database may already contain SCADAPack x70 database items that are not a part of the configuration that is being uploaded/imported. When you upload/import the configuration to Geo SCADA Expert, if the database items exist in Geo SCADA Expert but not in the configuration that is being uploaded/imported then, based on the selected Mode those database items may be taken out of service in the Geo SCADA Expert database (see Ensure that SCADAPack x70 Names Match Following a Rename). This is by design, as it is assumed that those database items are no longer required (see Import from RemoteConnect, and Upload Configuration). You may choose to delete the obsolete database items from the Geo SCADA Expert database.

You can view the list of those database items that are taken out of service following an upload/import, in the report that is generated. Use the Display Configuration Report pick action on the associated SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item to view the report. The report lists the database item(s) that have not been found in the uploaded/imported configuration and have hence been taken out of service (see Configuration Reports for SCADAPack x70 Devices).

If a Modbus Server Device is out of service, all associated Modbus Scanners are also taken out of service.

An engineer might mark an unused database item as 'Out of Service' so that it does not get included in any export/download requests. You can ascertain whether a SCADAPack x70 Configuration item is taken out of service by viewing its Quality status attribute in the item's Status display.
